Four Ways Eleven Could Interact With Children Without Being Creepy
… Plus one fic rec in which this actually happens
Because seriously, the trope of Eleven running into someone's younger self has not only gotten old, it's gotten super sketchy. Recognizing that Eleven can actually be super adorable with children, I've come up with some other options:
1. Fob Watched
Eleven and Clara run across a young girl with a fob watch. Turns out she's a child of Gallifrey who, when the Time War broke out, was hidden in a human colony. After she opens the watch and remembers her past, the girl joins Team TARDIS. Over the season, the Doctor tutors the girl in Gallifreyan culture while searching for clues as to whether other Gallifreyan children have been fob watched.
Bonus: The answer is yes, there are other fob watched children out there - which opens the doors to some lovely plots about the Doctor actually managing to help save his people after all.
2. The Luke & Sky Adventures
Following the death of Sarah Jane Smith, the Doctor stops by 13 Bannerman Road to offer condolences to Luke and Sky. What starts as a single trip to show the children Sarah Jane's favourite place in the universe turns into a whole series of adventures across time and space!
Bonus: At some point, the Doctor has to head back to Bannerman Road to pick up Rani and Clyde because he misplaced the Smiths and needs help to find them again.
3. Stormy Who?
Over a decade since Craig's Department Store Debacle, the Owens family runs into Eleven and Clara while on holiday at a haunted castle in Scotland. When the adventure ends, Eleven offers Craig and Sophie some alone time to recover - resulting in three Owens kids running about the TARDIS for the next couple of episodes.
Bonus: The Doctor insists on calling Alfie "Stormy" without ever explaining why.
4. Second Star To The Right
While stopping at a pirate-infested island, the Doctor comes across a boy named Peter who never grows old. The Doctor understands what is means to be older on the inside and invites Peter to join him in travelling the universe. The season arc includes a hunt for answers to Peter's condition as well as the search for his family.
Bonus: In the midst of the season, Peter meets a girl named Wendy who joins them on their adventures.
5. Alex in the TARDIS
This one is actually one of my favourite Doctor Who fic series (found here), in which a girl with "that most embarrassing of social diseases" (aka a psychic) gets pushed on the Doctor because he can help her learn to cope with her abilities. Absolutely adorable.
